The FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations) estimates that annually between 20 to 40 percent of global crop production are lost to pests.
There are benefits to the use of pesticides, however many problems are associated with their use, too. Not only are they mobile; moving through water, air and soil - coming in contact with other organisms and causing harm, but also create pesticide residue on crops which is harmful to humans.
Reduction of pesticide use can be achieved, by only using them when a pest is present and at levels, which would threaten the commercial viability of a crop.
IPS offers a vast variety of highly effective monitoring and trapping solutions giving farmers the power to decide when to intervene – may that be with biological or pesticide solutions.
