Description
Adult
Wingspan of 25-28 mm. Forewings pale yellowish brown to straw coloured with several weakly curved or undulating dark crosslines and two dark spots near the centre of each wing, which are sometimes merged.
Larvae
18-20 mm in length when fully grown. Body is yellowish green, becoming glossy pale green with a dark mid dorsal stripe and yellowish lateral stripes. Head pale green with pale brown markings.
Eggs
Laid in small batches on the underside of leaves.
Distribution
Europe, the Middle East, Japan and the USA.
Economic Host(s)
Members of the Brassicaceae family, including cabbage, kale and Brussel sprouts.
Symptoms/Signs
The larvae feed on the underside of leaves before boring into the heart of hosts such as cabbage, causing dead hearts. Silk webbing is usually present.
