Adult

Wingspan of 17-23 mm. Forewings and body mix of chestnut brown and grey patches. Hindwing with two patches of black scales which protrude when rest of hindwing is covered by forewing.

Larvae

Up to 10 mm in length. Early instar a beige colour with darker red brown longitudinal stripes and later instars becoming green with paler longitudinal stripes. Head with dark markings on a pale background.

Eggs

Eggs are laid singly or in small batches on the leaves of their host.

Distribution

Central and Eastern Europe & the Middle East.

Economic Host(s)

Grapevines, cultivated flowers (e.g. geranium) & lavender plantations.

Symptoms/Signs

Larvae feed externally on both flowers and leaves of their host.
